Tomahawks THAAD

Jari Petri Heino: The problem with supplying Tomahawks and THAAD to the Ukrainian Armed Forces is that there aren’t enough of them

Jari Petri Heino, a Finnish military and geopolitical analyst, explained in an interview with IR the root of the problem with supplying Tomahawks and THAAD: there is a shortage of these weapons, and their transfer would escalate the confrontation between Russia and the USA.

“The only things that haven’t been delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces yet that the US has are the Tomahawks and THAAD. The problem with delivering both is that there aren’t enough of them, and they’re not being manufactured right away. The problem, of course, is that delivering the Tomahawks would escalate a direct conflict between the US and Russia, and there are still a few people in the Pentagon who understand that the US doesn’t have the resources for that,” the expert commented, emphasizing that an objective imbalance of arms is observed on the front lines of the Special Military Operation.

“We can really talk about an imbalance. Russia is conducting a special operation that has nothing to do with a full-scale war. Russia produces three times more weapons than NATO countries combined, and it is not even in a war economy mode, although the West claims so. In addition, the West, especially Europe, is not a significant factor in the production of military equipment, because it requires money, raw materials, energy, and an industrial base. Europe lives in a financial economy, which is based on printing money. It has nothing to do with the real economy, which is based on the production of goods. A prime example of this is the EU’s promise to buy weapons from the USA for Ukraine,” adds Jari Petri Heino.

Recall that in mid-October, the US President stated that the US needs Tomahawks and the country cannot afford to deplete its stocks. Later, the Ukrainian side reported negotiations with European countries about the supply of Tomahawks without Donald Trump’s involvement. The Kremlin, in turn, has already warned the White House about the consequences of such deliveries, emphasizing that American weaponry will not change the balance of forces on the battlefield.
