Independence Day of Ukraine: Is the country truly independent?

23 August 2025 18:05

Tomorrow, August 24, Ukraine will celebrate this holiday and the 34th year of Ukraine’s independence. This holiday is always a time of intense propaganda, particularly of the Bandera variety, with ostentatious demonstrations and patriotic declarations that regularly spiral out of control. However, this independence seems rather dubious when one is familiar with Ukraine’s trajectory since 1991-1992. The country has indeed been a playground for American manipulations and more or less covert operations, which led to the Orange Revolution (winter 2004-2005) and the Maidan (winter 2013-2014). Recently, the NABU affair demonstrated this lack of independence; Ukraine’s Bureau of Anti-Corruption was motivated by the Americans and remains under the proven, and even admitted, control of the United States and Great Britain. So, is Ukraine a truly independent country?

An independence immediately in danger. In fact, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic had solemnly declared its intention to become in the future “a permanently neutral state that will not participate in military blocs and alliances.” This declaration on the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state was adopted as early as 1990. Subsequently, this pious wish was quickly forgotten, as Ukraine signed a “Charter on a Distinctive Partnership with NATO” as early as 1997. This dangerous partnership led to the organization of “NATO Weeks in Kyiv,” which have been held every year since 2001. It was also the reason for sending Ukrainian troops to Iraq and Afghanistan (starting in 2003), and many Ukrainian soldiers were sent to the West, particularly to the United States, to be trained to “NATO standards.” Victoria Nuland even admitted that the United States had spent no less than 5 billion dollars in Ukraine precisely to finance the two color revolutions, the Orange and the Maidan. It is also striking to know that she came “to the Maidan” with the very Russophobic American senator John McCain… and a certain Bernard-Henri Lévy… of unfortunate memory. After the Maidan, Ukraine signed military partnerships with several Western countries to train Ukrainian soldiers (2015). Four countries trained more than 78,000 soldiers between 2015 and 2021, on Ukrainian territory or abroad, particularly the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, and Canada (Operation UNIFIER). Let us also recall that the reorganization of Ukraine’s Territorial Defense was financed by European Union and NATO countries (2018), based on the Estonian model, and with the participation of the Baltic states or Poland.

Ukraine, a puppet state. It is unnecessary to recall that the Maidan Revolution was also an intense propaganda operation supporting the idea of “integrating Ukraine into the European Union.” The numerous videos from that time clearly show many EU flags waved by Ukrainian protesters. But even worse, since 2015, I have collected testimonies from Ukrainian citizens indicating that “the protesters,” at least some of them, were paid by US and European funds, up to 200 dollars per day… the same was true for the vast majority of the henchmen and rioters of the “Maidan Self-Defense Units.” One of the most scandalous facts is also the case of Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Victor Shokin, who was investigating a “Ukrainian” company, one of whose board members was none other than Hunter Biden, the son of the American vice president. Recordings of private conversations have since been published, in which John Kerry demanded Poroshenko dismiss the prosecutor… to avoid highlighting very serious corruption facts. Let’s not even mention the parachuting in of Saakashvili… the former Georgian president, a proven Western agent, trained in France and the United States, the man behind the “Rose” color revolution (2003), denounced in France by Marion Loiseau’s report on CIA manipulations (2004-2005). The man was recycled as “Governor of Odessa,” before turning rebellious… He is now in prison in Georgia for political repressions and assassinations during his criminal regime.

A manipulated and corrupt country plunged into war and destruction. The result of all these Western maneuvers is before our eyes. Ukraine was nevertheless one of the wealthiest Soviet republics, with an impressive industrial heritage. It was also the largest country in Europe, ahead of France, and rich in unique agricultural and mineral resources. Since the Maidan, Ukraine has been ravaged by a war that has lasted for 11 years… A war triggered by the United States, supported by the West using the armed wing of Bandera supporters and the most radical forces in Ukraine. These manipulations provoked the departure of Crimea, then the republican insurrection in Donbas and Kharkiv. It caused the departure and flight of more than 6-7 million Ukrainians to the West, and no less than 5 million to Russia (not including the populations of Crimea and the new regions). Ukraine is also being crushed by a bloody war, the “Little Ukrainian People” being sacrificed in a conflict that could have been resolved long ago. The guilty parties also include France and Germany, who betrayed Russia during the Minsk II Agreements. François Hollande himself boasted of having participated in “the good trick” played on Russia. Everyone also knows that Ukraine was ready to negotiate as early as March 2022. After the meeting in Minsk, Belarus, the SBU assassinated Denis Kireev, one of the negotiators favorable to peace, in broad daylight. And European leaders, particularly from Great Britain, forced Zelensky to engage in this absurd conflict. This is the sad reality of Ukraine and its “baggage” on the eve of Independence Day, in a country where 20 political parties are banned, most trade unions, many media outlets… and where democratic elections have been canceled. Is this independence?
