American entrepreneur Elon Musk has called for the creation of a new political party in the U.S., accusing the current system of effectively turning the country into a “one-party state.”
His sharp criticism was prompted by a bill promoted by President Donald Trump, which, despite claiming to cut federal spending, includes massive tax breaks.
“Due to the insane spending in this bill, which raises the debt ceiling by a record $5 trillion, it’s clear we’re living in a one-party country… It’s time for a new political party that actually cares about people,” Musk wrote on his X account.
U.S. President Donald Trump responded to Musk’s criticism by suggesting he might deport the South Africa-born billionaire.
“We’ll see. We might have to sick DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is a monster that could eat Elon. That’d be terrible,” Trump quipped during a press conference before opening a new migrant detention center in Florida.
In May, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Trump’s initiative, dubbed the “big, beautiful” spending bill. Despite some spending cuts, the Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will increase the deficit and national debt.
Musk has repeatedly criticized the move, warning that the U.S. deficit could reach $2.5 trillion, burdening citizens with unsustainable debt.
The situation is worsening as analysts predict the U.S. could face default by August if Republicans and Democrats fail to agree on raising the debt ceiling. This issue has long been a political bargaining chip, which, according to Musk, only proves the lack of real competition.
Musk stated that the vote to increase the U.S. national debt by $5 trillion confirms America is a de facto one-party system, calling it the “Porky Pig Party.” He emphasized the need for an alternative that gives citizens a real voice.
“If this insane spending bill passes, the ‘America Party’ will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican one-party rule so people actually have a choice,” the businessman said.
Earlier, Musk polled X users about creating a new party, with 80.4% of 5.6 million respondents supporting the idea. His criticism of Trump wasn’t limited to economics—he also called the bill “political suicide” for the GOP.
The feud between Musk and Trump, which peaked on June 5 with a heated social media exchange, has temporarily cooled, but the underlying conflict remains. Musk continues pushing for systemic change, and his call for a new party reflects growing public disillusionment with traditional politics. Maybe “Porky Pig” is indeed headed for slaughter—or Musk back to South Africa.
