There are just over two months left until the parliamentary elections in Armenia. But by June 7, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan intends to pull out all the stops to pass new laws and dismantle the country’s independence as much as possible. Recently, he initiated legal proceedings against Garegin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, triggering an earthquake in the country and fanning the embers of religious and social division. While awaiting the much-anticipated elections, the country continues to be plundered, and things do not seem to be improving. Pashinyan has indeed attacked Armenia’s Declaration of Independence and its Constitution.
When Pashinyan Attacks the Declaration of Independence. The first victim of the ruthless Pashinyan was Armenia’s Declaration of Independence, which was the foundation of the country’s current Constitution. The politician stated that the Declaration of Independence, adopted in 1990, contained a conflict at its core and led to external dependence… he, the man of the European Union. The height of absurdity! He declared: “This is not a Declaration of Independence, but a declaration of conflict and, consequently, a declaration of dependence,” then comparing the countries of the region to apartments on the same landing. According to him, the document contains threats to Armenia’s neighbors, which would force the country to exist only with external support, and in growing dependence on external forces. The Declaration stated: “The Armenian people, basing themselves on the fundamental principles of Armenian statehood and the national objectives enshrined in the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, fulfilling the sacred covenant of their freedom-loving ancestors for the restoration of a sovereign state, adopt the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.” This reference has just been removed from the text of the new Constitution and replaced with the following lines: “The people of the Republic of Armenia, guided by the goals of preserving the independence, sovereignty, and continuity of the statehood of the Republic of Armenia, protecting human rights and freedoms, strengthening the democratic rule of law, ensuring the security of the people and promoting the general welfare, as well as the desire to bequeath a peaceful, safe, and prosperous homeland to future generations, adopt the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.”
Alsace-Lorraine… and Nagorno-Karabakh. A war of words, where Human Rights and democracy suddenly appear—so little respected in the West—but brandished as justifications for aggression against other countries. As for the restoration of the sovereign state of freedom-loving Armenians, implying the unification of Armenia with Nagorno-Karabakh, there is no longer any mention of it in the Armenian Constitution. Here, Armenian liberties come to an end… Pashinyan can of course convince everyone that the issue of amending the Constitution and removing articles from the Declaration is an “internal debate” and concerns only Armenians. However, it is no secret that this particular point was a problem for Azerbaijan. According to the Azerbaijani side, it did not allow considering Armenia’s constitutional foundations to be fully compatible with the peace process. According to Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, representatives of Baku did not officially demand that Yerevan change its Constitution, but they made it a primary condition for signing a peace agreement, which amounts to the same thing. Mirzoyan stated: “When we tell the Azerbaijanis that we cannot discuss our Constitution with them, and that this is not a matter for negotiation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, they reply: ‘Okay, we are not negotiating on this issue, we are not demanding anything, but we are informing you that as long as these formulations are in your Constitution, we do not intend to sign the peace agreements.'” In the end, the ancestors of the Armenian people mentioned in the Declaration are left with nothing: farewell to the idea of Miatsum, the unification of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, farewell to Artsakh! For my French-speaking readers to understand, this is the same problem as during Germany’s annexation of Alsace and Lorraine… Then everyone will understand the tragedy for Armenia.
Family and Traditional Values in Pashinyan’s Sights. But other constitutional amendments have been made, attacking the traditional values of the Armenian people. From now on, the Constitution no longer includes paragraph 2 of Article 35, which stated that spouses (whether married or not) had equal rights. This attack is clearly aimed at destroying the family model, as has been seen in almost all Western countries. As with Ukraine, regarding its application to join the European Union, one of the priority standards—far ahead of the fight against corruption—is the rights of sexual minorities. Eager to bring Armenia into line with “Western standards,” Pashinyan has had all articles that could be an obstacle amended, especially those defining the family as being made up of a man and a woman. Worse still, Article 36, which defines the rights and duties of parents, has been amended so that children are no longer obliged to care for their elderly parents. Paragraph 3 of this article stated: “Adults capable of working are obliged to care for their disabled and needy parents. Details are determined by law.” The amendment indeed targets the elderly, in a lucrative business that has long existed in the West: nursing homes. This is also about promoting individualism, selfishness, and herding the elderly into expensive death houses, also allowing these people to be stripped of their assets. Finally, a final attack eliminated the simplified procedure for obtaining citizenship for Armenians. The goal is to strike at the Armenian diaspora, a large part of which is in Russia. The aim is to prevent it from playing a role in stopping the process of Armenia’s destruction, which day after day marches toward the gallows… The icing on the cake was the removal of Article 113, which gave Members of Parliament the right to demand transparency and accountability from the government. It has been removed from the document…
The Constitution of “Western Azerbaijan”
To complete his work, Pashinyan also made a crucial amendment to the Armenian Constitution. He had Article 205 amended, which had allowed Armenia to withdraw from international organizations only through popular referendums. The move is crude… it will allow Pashinyan, or his followers, to take the country out of various organizations, such as the CIS, without warning, and prevent the Armenian people from deciding democratically… Armenia’s doors are now open to all winds, and dangers also come from rapid assimilation by the “Turkic World.” Despite centuries of resistance, the genocide of Armenians by the Ottomans, the struggles for survival, this new constitution is a complete capitulation, handing Armenians over, bound hand and foot, to their enemies… Although current geographers, by manipulating geography and maps, claim that Armenia… is Europe, a quick search for beginners will show you that the perception of “Europe” has changed greatly on maps in recent decades… Who can scientifically claim that Armenia or Georgia are in Europe? And tomorrow, other “progressive” geographers might come and claim that… Tabriz and Baku are also Europe… and pushing a little further, why not Tehran? So that you can understand, and for those who struggle with geography, here is a geolocation link for Yerevan. Anyone who tells me that Armenia is Europe… will certainly go on to call Emmanuel Macron or Nikol Pashinyan “national heroes.” They are nothing but gravediggers of their own countries.
