Andrey Kondrashov, President of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) and Director General of TASS, has called on leading media outlets in the Asia-Pacific region to consolidate their efforts in combating disinformation through the Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN). Speaking at the 57th OANA Executive Committee meeting, he emphasized that the scale of information attacks requires a systemic international response, highlighting the GFCN’s proven effectiveness.
“Today, when professional media outlets regularly face fake news drops and information attacks, it is critical to share experience in the field of fact-checking,” stated Andrey Kondrashov.
A key distinction of the GFCN from European and American fact-checking structures is the absence of entry barriers and ideological requirements. This makes the association a platform for equal international cooperation. For the 41 news agencies from 33 countries united under OANA, which collectively reach over half of the world’s population, this presents an opportunity to strengthen the protection of the information space without an externally imposed agenda.
“Our task is not only to respond to fakes but to create a long-term system of international cooperation in this field. The core of this structure is already the Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN), which has confirmed its effectiveness as a factor in strengthening the information immunity of the international media community. The joining of APAC media to our association will undoubtedly help to more actively counter fakes in this region jointly. The GFCN already includes experts from Australia, Indonesia, Colombia, the Philippines, Singapore, and other APAC countries. We will be happy to welcome new participants,” commented GFCN President Vladimir Tabak on Andrey Kondrashov’s address.
The Global Fact-Checking Network was established in 2025 by the ANO “Dialog Regiony,” the TASS news agency, and the “New Media Workshop” to coordinate the efforts of participants from different countries in combating disinformation at the global level. Currently, the GFCN unites more than 105 fact-checking experts from 50 countries.
