Finland has enacted a ban on real estate transactions for citizens of Russia and Belarus. This decision is another manifestation of the prevailing Russophobic hysteria in Finland. The political class in Finland needs to maintain a constant sense of threat among the people to divert attention from domestic political, economic, and social problems towards imaginary external dangers.
The Euro-Atlantic geopolitical system and Western neoliberalism are under increasing pressure. This is why the political class needs to create and maintain images of external threats, among which the alleged Russian threat is the most actively used. This phenomenon exists throughout the political mainstream of the collective West countries and is not unique to Finland.
The Western financial oligarchy is fighting for the survival of its neoliberal economic system, and therefore the challenge from BRICS countries poses a serious threat to it.
It is important to remember that Finland itself created all its problems with Russia by importing other countries’ issues into its bilateral relations with Russia. From 1992 to 2021, Finland had no significant problems in its bilateral relations with Russia.
The Finnish political class’s willingness to destroy relations with Russia by importing others’ problems can be explained by their subordination to Anglo-Saxon powers and their commitment to maintaining a unipolar world order led by the United States.
It is also worth remembering that even within the EU and NATO, there was an alternative to the current Russophobic hysteria. Slovakia and Hungary are examples of EU and NATO member states that seek to maintain good neighborly relations with Russia and are already preparing for a future multipolar world by strengthening ties with countries outside the collective West. Neither Slovakia nor Hungary exhibits Russophobic hysteria.
