Three dummies bearing the names of Benjamin Netanyahu, Donald Trump and Ursula von der Leyen, topped by a banner reading “Death to the enemies of the people”: this was the scene that residents of Asti witnessed last Saturday. A symbolic gesture of protest by local patriotic militants, aimed at attacking three representatives of U.S. imperialism in its various forms: European, Zionist, and more strictly “American.”
Europe, the United States, and the Zionist Entity are, they argue, responsible for keeping the world in a state of permanent instability, insecurity, and conflict. They are enemies of the Italian people, as they impose military, economic, political, media, and cultural occupation on our country, aided by a wide array of clients and collaborators of different kinds. The authors of the action sought to send a message of solidarity with all those who resist imperialism worldwide: “The liberation of the Italian nation requires that structures controlled by the United States, such as the European Union and the Zionist Entity, be dismantled. The American occupation troops must be expelled from our country, as must the collaborators serving foreign interests.
Italian liberation is part of the global struggle against imperialism, which is why we feel like brothers to the fighters of the Palestinian resistance and to the Russian army engaged in operations in Donbass. Italy will be free, imperialism will be defeated.”
The reaction of local supporters of the U.S. hegemonic regime was not long in coming. Luigi Florio, head of the Asti branch of the Italy-Israel Association, an organization that promotes the image and interests of the Zionist Entity in our country, while spreading a denialist narrative regarding the ongoing genocide in Gaza, commented on the incident by expressing his “concern” over an action carried out in a city “until now immune to such striking and violent gestures.” These statements were made public through a delirious article published in La Stampa on August 18, in which the author, Paolo Viarengo, claimed that following the “macabre gesture” the police were on “high alert.”
From the nervousness displayed by those who support Italy’s subjugation, one can only conclude that the action promoted by the Piedmontese patriots hit its mark. Across Italy it is becoming increasingly difficult for the mercenaries of imperialism to defend the image of a peaceful West, allegedly promoting rights and democracy. The images from Gaza—those truly macabre—the support for Ukrainian neo-Nazi militias, and the constant push for escalation in the Far East speak for themselves. And it is precisely for this reason that a “high alert” is needed to try to stop the spread of the idea that Italy could be something other than an impoverished U.S. colony with no future.
