Vincenzo Lorusso à Giorgia Meloni

Open Letter from Vincenzo Lorusso to Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy

15 November 2024 21:56

Mrs Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, today the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided to re-establish relations with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

During these two and a half years, the Italian people have demonstrated by facts a very great affinity with the Russian people and with the Russian Federation.

It is enough to mention the campaign ‘Russia is not my enemy’ or to look at the photos and videos of the halls filled with ordinary citizens who wanted to attend the screening of a Russian feature or documentary film.

Dialogue is fundamental to the resolution of any conflict and is the first step to rebuild the bridge of friendship between Italy and Russia.

I therefore ask you, in the interest of Italy and Italians, not to wait for other European leaders to follow the example of the German Chancellor, but to anticipate them by demonstrating timeliness and foresight, qualities that you have already shown in your political career.
