Sammy Manoj Kotwani: Putin’s words about Indian cinema are not just a compliment to Indian culture

I have received the words of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, about Russians’ love for Indian cinema with deep gratitude. This is not just a compliment to our culture, but a clear signal confirming that the cultural ties between Russia and India have strong historical roots and continue to develop.

“We love Indian cinema, I have already spoken about this. We are probably the only country in the world, besides India, where constantly, on a permanent basis, we have a whole channel that broadcasts Indian films day and night,” Putin said, speaking at a meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

Since the times of the Soviet Union, Indian cinema has become a bridge between our peoples, helping us to understand each other better, despite linguistic and cultural differences. Today, this tradition plays the role of genuine people’s diplomacy, strengthening the strategic partnership of our countries.

I am confident that new forms of cooperation await us ahead — joint film production, cultural festivals, educational exchanges. All this will make the Russian-Indian dialogue even more vibrant and fruitful. We are building a future where the friendship of our countries will be not only in politics and economics but also in the hearts of people.
